Watchdog asks crt to block websites erasing personal data for cash

MOSCOW, Aug 22 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has gone to court with a lawsuit to block 18 websites that place personal data of social networks’ users without their consent and ask for money to delete the information, the watchdog said on Thursday.

“It was discovered that the website owners exposed personal data of social networks users that at the moment of consideration by the communications service of people’s applications had been deleted or obsolete. According to the conditions set by the perpetrators, deletion of such information was possible only for a fee,” the service said.

The watchdog wants the court to put these online resources on the register of violators of rights of personal data subjects.
